Go Rush!
I began this assignment by contemplating various communities that I could research. I decided to observe and study the Florida Rush Soccer community. I then proceeded to visit their facility and formulate field notes on all the observations I had made. I wrote down all of my observations and analyzed each one. After multiple field visit studies, I had gathered all of my information and wrote the assignment.
The assignment wasn’t necessarily difficult; just more time consuming than others. It required me to take multiple field visits and take a large amount of time writing down all of the observations that I could. After I had gathered all of my information, the process got easier from that point on. The difficult part for me was deciding how the paper would be organized. I had a lot of notes and information that I wanted to include in my essay, but I was unsure of where to put everything and what would be the best approach to the organizational aspect of the paper. After thinking it out and moving certain things around, I was able to organize the paper how I wanted and successfully get my main theme across.
My feedback encouraged me to improve my organization and to include a quote as a nice addition to the paper. This paper mad me realize the importance of real life sources. I normally go to the Internet or libraries to gather information about specific topics, as it seems like the easiest way. I have always falsely assumed that I could find what I needed through sources like the Internet and books. This assignment opened my eyes and made me realize that taking the time to set up meetings with real life sources actually makes it easier in the end. For this assignment, I visited the field multiples times and had real life observations around me. I also met with an interviewee from the soccer team and got to hear his opinions and experiences with the Florida Rush Soccer Club. It did take a hefty amount of time to visit the facility, write down all the notes, and to interview Inaki. However, in the long run, it ended up saving me a lot of time. Once I had gathered all of my information, the hard part was over. From then on, it was a breeze to write the paper because I was knowledgeable about the topic.
As we had practiced in class one day, this paper taught me to be extremely detailed in my observations. It can’t really hurt to be too detailed, so I did my best to write down every observation possible. While writing my paper, I realized that little details ended up making a big difference. I never thought that small detail could actually contribute so much to my paper.
This paper helped me realize all of the different kinds of discourse that happens at this community. As a soccer player, I had been aware of most of the discourse in the community, but had been missing out on some. Going to the field and simply sitting down and observing everything around me allowed me to see all kinds of discourse and how it plays a role in this specific community.
